AS A BELIEVER, WHEN DOCTORS GIVE YOU A BAD REPORT ACCORDING TO SCIENCE, RESPOND ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURES

During the Third Service of Covenant Family Day, Pastor David Oyedepo Jnr urged the congregation to deliberately choose to speak God’s Word when faced with negative reports.

He shared a personal anecdote: “Some time ago, someone came to me. Their wife was pregnant and they said, ‘Pastor, this is what the doctor said about the pregnancy and the report he gave.’ I responded, ‘Based on what?’ They looked at me like I didn’t understand, saying, ‘This is what the doctor said.’ I pressed, ‘Based on what?’ They insisted, ‘They’ve done their tests and this is their conclusion.’ I said, ‘Well, they’ve given their opinion, but what do you say? Because my Bible doesn’t say, ‘You will have what the doctor says.’ It says you will have what you say!’ If the doctor’s report is based on science and you’re not a scientist, you should be a scripturalist. So, what do you say? Is anyone hearing what God is saying? ‘What do you say?’ You see, every aspect of life should be shaped by God’s Word. Your language should be dictated by the Word, your thoughts, your meditations—all should be Word-driven. Don’t let the events of the world dictate what occupies your heart. Let God’s Word shape your way of thinking.

Philippians 4:8 gives us a syllabus. What does that mean? Anything not in that syllabus, don’t dwell on it. You go to sleep and have a disturbing dream, and then you wake up and start thinking about it. Is it lovely? Is it a good report? If you dreamt of hyenas chasing you, is that a good report? Why are you sitting there pondering it? God says, ‘Stop thinking on those things.’ Is anyone getting what God is saying? Stop thinking on those things. Take God’s Word and let it form your pattern of thinking.”
